From substrate to finished surface – designed as a complete system.
“A wall assembly is only as good as the way its individual layers work together.”
That is why we develop the Hessler Natural Lime Plaster System as a complete wall assembly. From substrate preparation and base coats to finishing plasters, paints and surface finishes, every component follows the same material philosophy:
All components of the Hessler Natural Lime Plaster System are bound exclusively with lime – without synthetic binders, cement, gypsum or synthetic preservatives. We also ensure that our aggregates are carefully selected and documented.
The result is durable wall assemblies with transparently disclosed ingredients that regulate moisture, remain permeable to water vapour and contribute to a healthy indoor environment over the long term.
Where complementary building materials are needed as part of a functioning wall assembly, we rely on carefully selected materials and approved wall assemblies. We believe in specialising in what we have mastered for over 140 years, rather than offering the widest possible product range: high-quality natural lime building materials and carefully designed natural lime plaster systems.
Difference to modern building materials
The term “lime plaster” alone does not indicate which binders a product contains. Some lime plasters on the market contain cement in addition to lime. Anyone specifically seeking a plaster bound exclusively with lime should therefore check its full composition.
Our pure natural lime plasters differ from these cement-containing lime plasters in their binder composition: depending on the product, we use natural hydraulic lime, high-calcium hydrated lime or lime putty. Cement and gypsum are not part of these formulations. We also use no synthetic binders or preservatives. Since 2020, we have not added titanium dioxide to our natural lime plasters either.
Alongside binders, aggregates and processing aids also deserve attention. We disclose all ingredients in our product data sheets. This allows building owners, designers and contractors to understand which materials they are using and compare products based on their actual composition.
Building physics properties should also be assessed using specific technical values. Our HP 9 natural lime base coat plaster, for example, has a water vapour diffusion resistance factor of μ = 6. This low value indicates its high water vapour permeability. When assessing the complete wall assembly, the thickness of each layer and the properties of the other materials must also be taken into account.
Our approach combines an exclusively lime-based binder system with selected raw materials, fully disclosed formulations and mutually compatible natural lime plasters. This honesty about materials enables informed and well-founded product choices.
Why is information and transparency so important to us?
We believe that open and honest dealings with you are the best way to convince you of our products. Our aim is not simply to sell our products, but to convince you to buy our products. We want to give you the knowledge and understanding of our products on the basis of which you can make a transparent and informed purchase decision.
We therefore see it as our duty and responsibility to you and guarantee comprehensible, tailored and understandable advice. Because you deserve products that meet your requirements and fulfill the promise of clean living. For this reason, we also disclose all materials and additives in our products. You can find these, for example, in the full declaration in our data sheets.
Our Raw Materials – Carefully Selected
The quality of our natural lime plasters begins with their raw materials. Depending on the product, we use natural hydraulic lime, high-calcium hydrated lime or lime putty as binders.
These are complemented by selected aggregates:
- Limestone and quartz sands
- Marble granules
- Marble powders
- Lightweight mineral aggregates
Selected formulations also contain hemp fibres. Hemp is a renewable, plant-based raw material.
We disclose all ingredients in the full composition declaration for each product. This makes our material philosophy transparent – from binder to aggregate.
